lizz simon-miller msw candidate ‘24

clinical intern / intern therapist

as a professional…

lizz is currently completing her MSW (master of social work) at the University of New England and has joined the Beauty In Her Struggle team to further her education, competence + research in trauma-informed care; clinically + systemically.

while lizz may be a “new” therapist, she is a seasoned healthcare professional and has spent the last near-decade providing medical assisting services in various healthcare agencies + settings. with an undergraduate degree in social and behavioral science from the University of Southern Maine, lizz has been an avid supporter of mental health services from the start. after a significantly trying career in the medical field + a yearning for more knowledge of clinical social work, psychotherapy and trauma, lizz made the choice to invest in herself + return to school for her masters in social work. lizz is seasoned in healthcare burnout and makes it a point to integrate this experience + knowledge into her work with clients.

most recently lizz provided trauma-informed support to survivors of sexual trauma at SASSMM (sexual assault support services of midcoast maine). lizz found immense passion + pride in supporting both adult + child survivors and hopes to continue working with survivors of acute and complex trauma.

lizz identifies as a life-long learner with a passion for studying the neurobiology of trauma, nervous system regulation + trauma-informed care integration at a systemic level. she has completed a support group facilitator training through MECASA (maine coalition against sexual assault), a TF-CBT (trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy) training through the Medical University of South Carolina, and will soon be a CCTP (certified clinical trauma professional). lizz’s love of learning + embodiment of trauma-informed principles of care leave her eager + prepared to make meaningful, human connections with clients and provide survivors a space to tell their stories in an empowering way. lizz is welcoming new clients at this time for a reduced rate of $35 per 50-55 minute session.

as a human…

lizz is a daughter, a mother, a friend, a co-parent, an adoptee, a student, an animal lover, a traveler, a book worm, a lover of converse, a coffee connoisseur, and will die on the hill that salty snacks are better than sweet ones.

as a single mom, lizz finds herself passionate about connecting with + supporting other women with similar shared experiences. she led herself to the mental health world as a result of immense respect for her own journey and those of others. lizz’s unique experience of being adopted at 3 weeks old has also been a motivation for her to join the mental health field; she hopes to offer a space of compassion, empathy + relatability for any potential clients.

lizz’s favorite food is pickles and favorite travel companion is her daughter. she, too, is an avid swearer + allows her human-ness to show in session. she loves southern + midcoast maine and has lived here since her adoption as a new born. when lizz isn’t working, studying or attending school events + parenting, you can find her reading at the local library or planning her next trip. lizz embodies all of Beauty In Her Struggle’s values + makes the perfect addition to our Beauty family.
